Star Wars TV Series Ahsoka Gets Off To A Good Start With 14 Million Views, Disney Says

The Star Wars TV series Ahsoka debuted earlier this month on Disney Plus, and it put up big numbers. Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that the debut episode reached 14 million views globally, which made it the most-watched piece of content on Disney Plus in the past week and the No. 1 piece of content on Disney Plus for its launch.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said Ahsoka’s ability to appeal to all ages helped it perform well. “We give our thanks to all the fans who have been with Ahsoka on every step of her journey and to all those who are just learning about her now in Ahsoka on Disney Plus,” Kennedy said.

Disney defines a “view” as total stream time divided by runtime available. It’s not clear how Ahsoka’s second episode performed in terms of views. Disney’s counts viewership differently than other companies. For example, Netflix releases total streaming hours, and other companies have different methods. This is part of the reason why the actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, is asking studios to adopt a tool from Parrot Analytics to measure viewership to determine residuals.

New episodes of Ahsoka premiere Thursday at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET. There are eight episodes in the first season, which will wrap up on October 3.

Looking beyond Ahsoka, Disney is making even more Star Wars TV shows, including The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew, among others. In other news, actor Liam Neeson recently shared his thoughts on Star Wars, saying the series has a cult-like following.
